0095 Diplomats – I’m Ready @ 2:33

“Santana magnifique”

This one is going out to my buddy Jono who had a baby boy last week, congrats J! And yes, same cat who likes the So Fresh So Clean track from Outkast because he likes to shower a lot. He’s always liked the Diplomats too, and I think it’s because he works in International Relations over in Europe… lol I’m being dead serious :)

Found this mp3 again after originally having it on a mixed mini disc compilation, it’s one of my favourite Dipset tracks. Best part is Camron, and even though they all only rhyme 4 bars on, 4 bars off, it’s Camron that hits the hardest when he comes back. That’s why he’s the Don of the Dip!

0094 Kanye and Taylor Swift @ the MTV Awards 2010

Monday, October 4th, 2010

“but tonight you’ll live it all again…”

A two parter, and I know this is old, but after listening again to both Taylor Swift and Kanye’s live performances  at the MTV awards, I want to say how f’in brilliant this spectacle was. I don’t know if they’re on the same label or not, or if Kanye knew her song was going to be about him? I hope he didn’t. Listening to the lyrics of  Innocent right after reading Kanye’s twitter stream apology a couple days prior plays like a modern music version of a Shakespearean play. The PR flacks who threw this one together deserve maximum credit for getting every last cent out of the Kanye/ Taylor Swift fiasco.

Listen to the best part of Taylor Swift’s song Innocent where she forgives Kanye, I love it.

And then Kanye to close out the show, with the weight of the night on his shoulders, blows the roof off with his MPC.

Listen to the best part of Kanye’s song Runaway with Pusha  T. where he makes a toast to scumbags and asks you to Runaway. Damn!

0092 Cali Swag District – Teach me how to dougie @ 2:18

“you ain’t messing with my dougie”

Shout to James for this one, go Galaxie 717!

This record just sounds super fresh, and I love their name. The best part is the third cat’s verse, so loose.

I also love the chorus too though, e’ry time I hear it, I like it more.

0085 Nelly – EI @ 1:15

Sunday, July 11th, 2010

“undulay undulay Mama EI EI uh ohhhhhhh!!!!  what’s poppan’n now”

I love the quote above, but the best part has to be when he says, “If they head right, Nelly there e’ry night”

Translation: If she’s smart, comes from a good family, and has her head on straight, Nelly will be over at her house e’ry night.

Outkast Stankonia

“You can plan a pretty picnic but you can’t predict the weather”

Part 3 of the Outkast Stankonia Trifecta.

No funny story on this one. I’m just planning a picnic this weekend and was hoping for good weather. Happy Canada Day!

Outkast Stankonia

“we are the coolest motherfunkers on the planet, and my my…”

Part 2 of the Outkast Stankonia Trifecta.

I have seen them play this live, and it was killer. Yessir.

I always remember when my buddy Jono told me how much he liked this song back when it came out. He wasn’t the biggest hip hop guy, so I thought he liked it because of the fact that he liked to stay so clean. Literally, he took at least 2 showers a day, and was always running late because of wanting to take a shower.

He’d always be singing along to it wherever we were, and I’d be like…yeah you are, you smell like Zest dawg!

So fresh so clean 2:53 – 3:15

0081 Outkast – Bombs over Baghdad @ 1:46

Saturday, June 19th, 2010

“Ha, Yeah!”

Part 1 of an Outkast Stankonia trifecta.

Check out the drums and synth on this part, and Big Boi going a mile a minute. Crazy. Dope album and that’s why we’re doing 2 more on Stankonia. This album is the pre-cursor to their Grammy award winning album of the year Speakerboxxx/The Love Below. You can hear the ascendancy.

0077 Flying Lotus – And the world laughs with you (feat. Thom Yorke) @ 2:27

“…good to know you’re there somewhere”

Another new school track for ya. Lotus’ last album Los Angeles was gonna be tough to top, but he came at it in a diff. way. His great-aunt is Alice Coltane, who in addition to being an amazing pianist and harpist, was John Coltrane’s wife. Flylo has music waaaaayyyyy deep in there, and the same way his Great Aunt used to summon the stars of the universe with Pharaoh and the gang, Flylo has taken flight with this album as well. This one is for the history books – to capture his sound in full (an audio hieroglyph), and place it up in the stars with his ancestors.

Thom Yorke is on this track, he knows.
