“..near me, touch me, feel me”

That’s an invitation ladies!

Seriously, not many songs start with this much intensity.

Listen to the synth lift up at :25

The drums are shit hot.

Saw her on SNL and “cough” Ellen and this song kills..

Track of the year, give her a grammy for this one.

0049 Phillip Mitchell – If we can’t be lovers at 0:00

“hey baby…”

Just found this today on the youtubes, love it, you’ll recognize the sample right away…I hope. Hearing these originals really does it for me. This was used by Kanye on his album Graduation, for Everything I am.

Check the date on this, it only came out in 2004, but it has the feel of being a 70’s classic. Also, I couldn’t find a wiki on this guy?

The BPOTS is hearing the actual lyrics for the first time at the beginning of the song..and when he goes…”hey baby” which Kanye uses to great effect. What a sample!

Kanye I’m with ya baby… keep doinit.

“She’s so…so sweet at dinner”

Amazing song, a feel good highlight from 2008. Let’s start with the bassline, and then you can go that piano play at the :32 part below, Saadiq’s straight smooth as velvet voice, the drum lead in at :37, the throwback to the 60’s but still sounding freshness, everything about this song is absolute loveliness.

I chose this part because you get the chorus, which is awesome, and then the lead in to the 2nd verse which I’m starting to notice more in different songs. I’ll try and find some more. Before the 2nd verse starts on a lot of songs, you get a little lead in, which here is the piano and drum part. It’s like the song is telling you, here we go again… and everyone in the band is smiling.

aretha

First off,  I’d like to wish a warm welcome to Cate Kustanczy who’s started contributing to the site. Check out her post below on the Led Zepp track – When the Levee Breaks.  Some of the stuff I post on is pretty obscure, so Cate is going to try and hit on some of the classics. Look for something on U2 soon. Welcome Cate:)

Here’s one that required me to add a new category: the 1980’s. This Aretha cut was produced by Luther Vandross, who I didn’t even know was in the game back then. This is silky stuff straight up, the beat is a bouncy little piece of boogie heaven. I’ll be honest, my shoulders are moving up and down right now one at a time, it’s crazy.

Also, this doesn’t sound like the Aretha from her RESPECT era, not at all. Her voice has always had a nice loose quality to it, but here she is silky smooth. Did she record this in bed?!?
