0149 Burial – Rough Sleeper @ 2:14

Monday, February 4th, 2013

If you like Burial, make sure you read Pitchfork’s review of this 12, it’s great.

It’s tough to pick the best part, because like they say in the article, there’s really 3 tracks over the course of Rough Sleeper’s 14 minutes.

But I keep coming back to the organ, listen to the funny way it loops.

Rough Sleeper 1:58 – 2:28

From Truant, released through Hyper Dub Records, 2012

“..on the beach, on the ocean of my dreamscape only in my dreams”

It’s like homemade lo-fi Beach boys right? The best part is the chorus I think, but the guitar throughout makes the track. The video is worth watching to see the humour in the song, and look out for the Dam Funk track on the album too.

Only in My Dreams 0:40 – 1:04

From Mature Themes, released through 4AD Records, 2012

“…thank you very much for the opportunity to share with you a very wonderful, exciting, memorable, casual, experiences..”

Taking the whole intro off the EP and the first 10 seconds of the first track for this best parter…this guy found some space to inhabit in the music universe that is wholly his own. This music has a real spirit to it,  and he’s in good company with Bullion on One Handed Music. Check out the EP, and if you want more, check out this track.

Hey, welcome back. Here’s one that’s nice for Fall. I thought this was going to be released on his upcoming EP Enough Thunder, but it’s not showing up on the advance tracklist. Found it on the BBC special that just aired, which has all sorts of gems in there. This one is stand out.

He plays Toronto on Sept. 30th, might want to check it out!
