0039 Randy Newman – The Natural Soundtrack – Knock the Cover off the Ball @ 1:03

roy-hobbs

This movie gets me every time, especially this scene when it starts getting stormy out at the ballpark, and Roy gets the call from Pop to pinch hit for Bump late in the game. The music starts stirring as he approaches the plate, takes a couple warm up swings, and then waits for his pitch. Then at 1:03, right when a crack of thunder bellows out the rain starts coming down, Roy absolutely hammers the ball into the lights over right field. The ball gets so shredded, the fielders can’t even pick it up.

Triumph baby! And the music to match!

“you really don’t understand do you…”

2 instruments on this intro, a guitar and a flute, and that’s all you need. Listen to the guy exhale and sigh before he starts preaching, you gotta leave that in there.  They don’t make music like this anymore. This is only Part 1 of the  “you can’t keep us down..” Part 2 with the Clipse is next.

Listening to this takes me back to the ending of Heat, which is an amazing film. This is Moby in his pre-Play era, and it’s moving stuff. Beautiful strings, some subtle piano work – and it sounds like it was made for the cinema.

I really really like this, I think God would be proud.
