“You can plan a pretty picnic but you can’t predict the weather”
Part 3 of the Outkast Stankonia Trifecta.
No funny story on this one. I’m just planning a picnic this weekend and was hoping for good weather. Happy Canada Day!

“we are the coolest motherfunkers on the planet, and my my…”
Part 2 of the Outkast Stankonia Trifecta.
I have seen them play this live, and it was killer. Yessir.
I always remember when my buddy Jono told me how much he liked this song back when it came out. He wasn’t the biggest hip hop guy, so I thought he liked it because of the fact that he liked to stay so clean. Literally, he took at least 2 showers a day, and was always running late because of wanting to take a shower.
He’d always be singing along to it wherever we were, and I’d be like…yeah you are, you smell like Zest dawg!
So fresh so clean 2:53 – 3:15

“Ha, Yeah!”
Part 1 of an Outkast Stankonia trifecta.
Check out the drums and synth on this part, and Big Boi going a mile a minute. Crazy. Dope album and that’s why we’re doing 2 more on Stankonia. This album is the pre-cursor to their Grammy award winning album of the year Speakerboxxx/The Love Below. You can hear the ascendancy.

“Don’t you want me to wake up….”
Big Synth drop right here. I was lucky enough to interview James Murphy (the main guy from LCD) a couple weeks back for ExploreMusic and I asked him about this part of the song. He said he’s a big gear guy, and that he sidechained about 6 synths to get this the way he wanted it. I remember watching a video of Kanye talking to Timbaland about whether the kick drum on Stronger had enough oomph…there are parts of songs that a producer knows have to hit hard, and I think some producers spend days if not weeks tweaking the compressors, filters and effects settings once they’ve already got the notes played.
You’ll be thankful when you hear this, I am. Check it out.

“…good to know you’re there somewhere”
Another new school track for ya. Lotus’ last album Los Angeles was gonna be tough to top, but he came at it in a diff. way. His great-aunt is Alice Coltane, who in addition to being an amazing pianist and harpist, was John Coltrane’s wife. Flylo has music waaaaayyyyy deep in there, and the same way his Great Aunt used to summon the stars of the universe with Pharaoh and the gang, Flylo has taken flight with this album as well. This one is for the history books – to capture his sound in full (an audio hieroglyph), and place it up in the stars with his ancestors.
Thom Yorke is on this track, he knows.
Buy the album
And the world laughs with you (feat. Thom Yorke) 2:27 – 3:08

This one is not obvious right away unless you know the track. Up until this point, we’re riding a synth wave that does not let up. Finally the drums do, which you can hear at the beginning of the clip, but the best part is when the drums come back in without the synth.
You can hear the synth start up a bit later on again, but around that early 3:00 mark, it’s a nice breath of fresh air to hear the track open up like that.
Geeky post I know :) This artist is cool and I wanted to post him up here.
