“…meeoooowwww”

Blindfold Test #10 is the scratch record from the BBE released WLIB AM King of the Wigflip album, and there are some wild samples on this cut as you’ll hear.  This part is the best because of the old “Mystery Movie of the Week” type sample.  It sounds like it’s from an old black and white movie. Either that or it’s a holdout from the Madvillain album, because its got a Batman-style comic book feel too. Click that old play button sonny, and listen for the trumpet.

Ruth @ 2:46
Keith @ 3:35
David @ 4:30
Federico @ 4:54
Brenda @ 5:21
Claire @ 6:00 – TBPOTS

3 softies in a row I know.. but I want to stay on this visual theme which started with the Moby post. Lets do this Kerouac style.

What a song, her voice is like silk, love the piano, one of the best TV shows ever, great finale, great use of music, was Sia a fan of the show? Watching this is sad, but also not, I miss Claire, and Nate, whoever put this finale together is an artist, who says there’s nothing good on TV, are you moved by this? Did you cry? 22,000 views isn’t that much, lots of passionate commenters on youtube, imagine hearing the strings live, the part when Ruth looks over at Nate and then closes her eyes is heavy, Nate was awesome, life is beautiful!

Listening to this takes me back to the ending of Heat, which is an amazing film. This is Moby in his pre-Play era, and it’s moving stuff. Beautiful strings, some subtle piano work – and it sounds like it was made for the cinema.

I really really like this, I think God would be proud.

This is a cover of the Joy Division classic, but I’ve only got an mp3 of this version on the comp, so I listen to this way more. I think he’s only really layering with some more drums, but it sounds awesome.

There’s a part at the end, where a new sample comes in, and I’ve always wondered what it was. I think I figured it out. It’s the song Then He Kissed me by a group called The Crystals. You’ll recognize it right away.

So watch the video first, and then play the clip (it’s 18 seconds in.) Am I right? Hit me with some comments.

“I stick toothpicks in your hors d’oeuvres”

He slows down to a nasty drawl for the above line, it hits hard! I’d heard this track before, its one of the best off Wayne’s Carter III album, but I took special notice when on his radio show, Mark Ronson mentioned specifically Santana’s verse on here. He’s right.

I’ve got the whole verse for ya, and there are even best parts within this best part. Santana pauses for great effect throughout, and on this verse he’s as tough as he’s even been. Shout to Wayne for bringing Dipset onto a track called Nuthin on me, it’s just right.

Listen to the overdubs too surfboard dudes.
